Nestled in the agricultural landscape of the Vendée area in the Pays de la Loire region of Western France, two hours north of Bordeaux, is Mill on the Rock, an ancient water mill dating back to the 1800's.   

Mill on the Rock is one of the few working mills in the area. It is fed by a gentle stream connected to the Autise river, and is surrounded by 12 acres of fields, trees and farmland at the foot of a gentle slope, where 12 sheep graze.

Inspired by the transformation of their half-acre Silverlake Los Angeles property into an urban flower farm, Tara Kolla and her husband, Beat Frutiger, are turning Mill on the Rock into a four bedroom b&b set to open in 2018.

Mill on the Rock will be a destination for culinary classes, wine tours, garden to table cuisine, maker workshops and cycling trips.  It will be an ideal resting place from which to explore Bordeaux, La Rochelle, Marais Poitevin and the sandy beaches of France's gorgeous western coastline.
